We are seeking an experienced and well-organised Senior Science Technician to lead the technical support within our Science Department. Working closely with teaching staff, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth, safe and effective delivery of practical science across all key stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technicians and support the head of science in the preparation of materials, equipment and resources for practical lessons.
- Ensure the safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and apparatus in line with health and safety regulations whilst maintaining checklists and records.
- Maintain laboratories, prep rooms and equipment to a high standard.
- Assist in the development of lesson/work plans, administration of coursework, worksheets etc.
- Contribute to planning, development and organisation of systems, procedures and policies ensuring manuals and guidance are updated accordingly.
- Support teachers in the classroom during practical activities and demonstrations.
- Take a lead role in the design, development and maintenance of any specialist equipment or other resources to support teaching and learning activities, under the direction of the Head of Department.
- Provide guidance and support to other technicians within the team.
- Manage stock levels, order materials and oversee deliveries.
- Maintain and undertake basic repairs to apparatus, machinery and equipment where practical or arrange alternative servicing by approved contractors.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with strong scientific knowledge, excellent organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. Experience working in a school science environment is highly desirable.
