We are seeking an experienced and well‑organised Senior Science Technician to lead the technical support within our Science Department. Working closely with teaching staff, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth, safe and effective delivery of practical science across all key stages.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the technicians and supporting the head of science in the preparation of materials, equipment and resources for practical lessons
- Ensuring the safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and apparatus in line with health and safety regulations whilst maintaining checklists and records
- Maintaining laboratories, prep rooms and equipment to a high standard
- Assisting in the development of lesson/work plans, administration of coursework, worksheets etc
- Contributing to planning, development and organisation of systems, procedures and policies ensuring manuals and guidance are updated accordingly
- Supporting teachers in the classroom during practical activities and demonstrations
- Taking a lead role in the design, development and maintenance of any specialist equipment or other resources to support teaching and learning activities, under the direction of the Head of Department
- Providing guidance and support to other technicians within the team
- Managing stock levels, ordering materials and overseeing deliveries
- Maintaining and undertaking basic repairs to apparatus, machinery and equipment where practical, or arranging alternative servicing by approved contractors
Qualifications and experience
We are looking for someone with strong scientific knowledge, excellent organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. Experience working in a school science environment is highly desirable.
