Leading the Built Environment Team to:
- Build on the identified growth strategy for the Built Environment Team and continue to strengthen market presence in a Development Management services context.
- Actively identify new business development opportunities and drive growth across the team and wider business unit activities.
- Ensure that projects are managed in accordance with Gleeds processes and procedures (governance and controls).
- Agree fees and charges for potential services with Business Unit Manager / Regional Director.
- Agree appointments / scope of services and ensure appointments are in place prior to commencing service delivery.
- Deliver high quality services and deliverables that meet our customers’ requirements.
- Review scope of appointments monthly to ensure services are delivered in accordance with appointments.
- Manage and maintain customer relationships (i.e. clients and other consultants) and ensure a customer care plan is in place.
- Resolve customer complaints.
- Ensure sufficient resources are available to deliver services on our projects, including managing resource conflict resolution with fellow directors.
- People leadership including managing resources and workload with senior team members and ensuring compliance with administrative requirements (appraisals, training, timesheets, etc.).
- Manage employees, focusing on retention and development.
- Develop and enhance the Gleeds Built Environment Team capability and cross service working.
- Brief employees on relevant aspects of Gleeds business.
- Prepare bids for services and drive profitable service delivery alongside Framework requirements to maximise procurement of Gleeds by public sector organisations.
- Manage the commercial aspects of projects (e.g. scope of services/deliverables, invoices, payments, and debt management).
- Work harmoniously with other Directors and assist the Business Unit Manager / Regional Director as well as other national regions.
- Continuous development of a professional network to maintain a high profile for Gleeds and to generate new business.
Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills
- Extensive knowledge and management of development and regeneration projects from inception through to delivery.
- A clear understanding of regeneration issues and related policy fields in the areas of development of the built environment, regeneration, and project delivery application.
- An understanding of all aspects of the development process: town planning, development appraisals, policy context, funding, and legal aspects of delivering development.
- Experience of effective engagement with key stakeholders such as the public, local Members/Councillors, property owners, investors, and grant funders alike and ability to influence and negotiate.
- Local Authority and Public Sector organisation understanding and working experience, as a Client or employee.
- Ability to motivate others (including providing support and encouragement).
- Excellent communication skills - both oral and written.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to quickly adapt to changing environments.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, negotiating skills, financial and numeracy management skills.
- Ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements readily.

This is an opportunity to lead the Built Environment Team, a team that is committed to finding creative but feasible solutions for the public sector, centred on the unlocking and bringing forward of challenging and complex-built environment projects. The Built Environment Team has a number of existing Local Authority and private sector clients appointed to provide Development Management services and deliver projects with a range of outputs, including residential, commercial, higher education, retail and leisure (uses including infrastructure and public realm). Notable national clients include Homes England and Network Rail. The established team was formed 3 years ago and operates within the Gleeds Regional Project Management offer. They cover the Gleeds North England region from our four regional offices in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle. The Built Environment Team is currently made up of eight staff at various grades and continues to identify new additions to complement the existing Regional team and support the wider UK development management service offer. We are seeking a Director addition to the growing service offer and lead the Built Environment Team into the next phase of growth, building upon the client relationship and projects already secured as well as driving the business growth for the next period of our business plan. This is a key service leadership opportunity, with ownership and autonomy to shape the future of the Built Environment Team. The ideal candidate will be energetic and committed to this next phase of growth, alongside proven business development, revenue generation capabilities and flexible working across our Manchester and Leeds offices.
