Based in London, AlixPartners is seeking a qualified and experienced Employment Lawyer to join our Legal Team. You will be part of an EMEA Employment Counsel team, advising the business on the full range of employment law matters across EMEA, with a particular focus on Germany.

The role includes:

  • Providing general employment law advice on the full range of employment issues faced by an international business, including contractual arrangements, employment-related laws and regulations, HR policies, restrictive covenants, employment litigation matters, contingent labour matters, recruitment, redundancies and exits.
  • Advising on senior executive recruitment and exits, including strategy, managing external counsel, and negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Advising on employee relations issues including internal investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes and performance management.
  • Instructing, supervising and analysing the advice provided by external counsel in the EMEA jurisdictions, primarily Germany.
  • Supporting the People team in developing strategies and policies to ensure compliance with employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Supporting the business with transactions and advising on TUPE (and equivalent) legislation throughout Europe.
  • Drafting documents including employment contracts, settlement agreements, restrictive covenants, bonus plans, and HR policies.
  • Supporting colleagues in Legal, Compliance and Risk with issues relating to employment law and contingent workers.

What you’ll need:

  • Ability to give well-reasoned legal advice under time pressure or in fast-moving circumstances.
  • Independent and autonomous working, with the ability to identify issues and escalate when necessary.
  • Self-motivation and willingness to maintain awareness of key changes to employment law impacting Germany and the wider EMEA region.
  • Organisational and prioritisation skills to respond to business issues in a timely manner.
  • Combining sound legal advice with business acumen to provide workable solutions.
  • Developing strong working relationships with senior stakeholders and being a true team player.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • At least 3-5 years’ post-qualification experience as a UK or Germany based employment lawyer, with at least 1 year in-house.
  • Knowledge and experience of other legal systems in Germany and EMEA.
  • Willingness to learn about jurisdictions where you do not have knowledge or experience.
  • Excellent English and German spoken and written communication skills.
