We are recruiting for a Research & Development Scientist to join our Alba Product Development Team based at our ARC site near Penicuik, EH26 0BF. This role is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday.

To lead, coordinate, supervise, and undertake design and development projects in the Haematology Product Development department of AliveDx (Alba). To record, analyse and reach valid conclusions for complex investigations in consultation with the Principal Scientist and Department Leader, enabling the completion of projects to the agreed timelines and the highest possible standard.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in planning, organising and undertaking work to Haematology Product Development studies and projects with support from the Department Leader and the project managers.
  • Record and analyse the results of experimental work from specific Haematology Development projects as assigned by the Principal Scientist and/or Department Leader to meet Design Control requirements in project files and the departmental objectives.
  • Assist with the supervision and training of other staff within or out with the team to ensure continuous development of staff capabilities.
  • Monitor the safe operation, control and maintenance of equipment in accordance with established procedures to minimize delays to work programmes and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with preparation and review of appropriate documentation to enable the department to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in project teams and other group meetings as required.
  • Participate in an 'in-house' programme of continuous training and assessment.
  • Perform any other duties as reasonably requested from the company from time to time.

Qualifications, Experience & Behaviours Required:

  • Science Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) background.
  • Clinical Laboratory Practitioner experience.
  • Relevant experience in appropriate regulated laboratory/environment e.g. medical devices, pharma.
  • Product development and optimisation experience.
  • Experience in recording and reporting on experimental outcomes.
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
