Lab technician, product development
Alive Dx is recruiting for a Lab Technician to support our Product Development function based near Edinburgh (EH26 0BF).
In this role, you will plays a key role in supporting the ALBA Product Development laboratory's daily operations.
This role is primarily laboratory based, with approximately 75% of time expected to be devoted to laboratory duties.
Responsibilities include preparing reagents, buffers and samples, maintaining laboratory equipment and laboratory cleanliness, and managing internal stock inventories to ensure efficient workflow.
In addition to laboratory work, the role includes some administrative duties, such as maintaining accurate documentation and assisting with internal orders.
The post holder will also be involved in training staff members where appropriate, ensuring consistency in laboratory practices and supporting knowledge transfer within the team.
The role is a full time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week.
YOUR MISSION
Your main responsibilities will include
- Prepare reagents and buffer formulations as requested, ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures.
- Perform sample preparation as required, maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
- Ensure laboratory cleanliness, including regular cleaning of labware and equipment.
- Maintain and follow maintenance/cleaning schedules for laboratory equipment and workspaces.
- Perform routine laboratory testing using automated analysers and standard laboratory equipment, accurately recording results in accordance with documented procedures.
- Ensure that automated instruments have passed Quality Control testing on days where they are requested to be in use by a Product Development Scientist / Senior Scientist.
- Monitor and manage internal stocks of reagents, chemicals and consumables, highlighting low stock levels and upcoming expirations.
- Ensure stock inventories are kept up to date and accurately recorded.
- Place internal orders and track receipt of goods, ensuring smooth stock replenishment.
- Support the ALBA Product Development team with project activities.
- Train new staff in general laboratory procedures ensuring consistency and efficiency in task execution.
- Offer guidance and knowledge sharing to less experienced staff.
- Work collaboratively across teams, demonstrating reliability, a positive attitude, and a commitment to teamwork.
- Maintain full traceability of maintenance and cleaning activities, ensuring adherence to Good Documentation Practice.
- YOUR COMPETENCIES
- Three Higher qualifications including one in a Science subject and Maths or English.
- Practical laboratory experience; experience within a regulated or quality-controlled environment would be advantageous.
- Experience working in a rapidly growing and changing business, including leading people through growth and new ways of working.
- Understanding of basic laboratory procedures and safe working practices.
- Ability to follow SOPs, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards
- Ability to operate standard laboratory equipment and automated analysers in accordance with approved procedures.
