Link Recruitment are working with an engineering consultancy based in Canary Wharf, looking for 4 STE4 Examiners. This role involves the structural assessment of critical railway assets, including station and depot canopies. The purpose is to evaluate the structural condition, load capacity, and compliance of these assets with Network Rail standards, particularly NR/L2/CIV/035 & NR/L3/CIV/024.
Additionally, you will collaborate closely with project teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of surveys in compliance with guidelines, and the effective management of identified risks. This will include operational tasks such as quality assurance, reporting, and providing support to teams to maintain efficient and consistent project outcomes.
A working knowledge of station and depot environments is preferred. Support with undertaking desktop studies confirming the level of data to be validated and extra data to be captured during the examinations. Produce examination reports with an assessment of condition and necessary remedial works to comply with standards.
Conduct both general and specialized inspections and testing protocols to detect defects and early indicators of structural failure, aiding in effective life cycle planning. Assess the extent and severity of defects according to standards (NR/L2/CIV/035 and NR/L3/CIV/024 standards for structural assessments) and recommend appropriate remedial actions when needed.
Maintain and update canopy asset information, ensuring any missing details are recorded and existing data in the asset management database is current. Perform initial inspections after bridge strikes as directed by line manager or project leads. Ensure adherence to relevant Codes of Practice in all canopy maintenance activities. Participate in a broad range of duties associated with the Structures service.
Produce detailed examination reports, with current condition and recommendations for remedial actions. Ensure inspections are carried out in compliance with the scope of works and other relevant guidelines. Verify data integrity by adhering to established quality assurance practices. Work closely with the project team including project managers, quality assurance managers, and other stakeholders to ensure the seamless execution of surveys and reporting on a weekly basis.
Immediately report any identified defects posing safety, security, or operational risks through appropriate channels and processes. Provide guidance and coordination to survey teams where required. Take on additional tasks as reasonably required at this level.
Essential Criteria:- At least 5 years of previous Structural Examiner experience
- Previous Structural Examination experience, holding their STE4 / BICβs competencies, or working towards.
- Proven experience in Structural Examining preferably with a focus on information collection in complex environments like transport or infrastructure.
- Computer literate and familiarity with MS Office.
- Strong analytical and reporting abilities.
- Good communication skills for liaising with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
- Proactive and detail-oriented approach to work, ensuring accuracy and quality in all deliverables.
- Full UK driving license and happy with nationwide travel.
- Degree in Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant site tickets or competencies e.g., CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS, First Aider, IPAF/PASMA, IRATA, BICS, STE2.
- Familiarity with working in a regulated environment such as Network Rail or other operational networks.
