ALink Recruitment are working with an engineering consultancy that are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to provide design support to a rail consultancy on an ad hoc and flexible basis.

This is not a full-time requirement at present and would suit an experienced engineer who is currently working elsewhere but has capacity to take on additional work.

There is potential for the workload to ramp up considerably in the future as projects develop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce mechanical building services designs for rail and infrastructure projects.
  • Design heating, cooling, hot and cold water and ventilation systems.
  • Design pipework, ductwork and associated mechanical systems.
  • Undertake plant and equipment selection, including AHUs, fans, pumps, boilers, chillers and associated equipment.
  • Produce calculations, specifications and other technical design information as required.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant Tf L, rail and mechanical engineering standards.
  • Review client requirements and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Work independently to deliver defined packages of mechanical design work.
  • Liaise with clients and other engineering disciplines where required.

Experience Required

  • Strong background in mechanical building services design.
  • Previous experience working within the UK rail industry.
  • Experience designing heating, cooling, water and ventilation systems.
  • Knowledge of above-ground drainage, plumbing, waste systems and mechanical controls/BMS would be beneficial.
  • Good understanding of relevant mechanical engineering standards and specifications.
  • Tf L experience and knowledge of Tf L standards/processes would be highly desirable.
  • Able to independently pick up and deliver mechanical design packages.
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable dealing with clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

The Opportunity

This is not initially a full-time requirement.

Work will be provided on an ad-hoc basis depending on project requirements, making it well suited to an experienced engineer looking for additional work alongside their existing commitments.

The level of support required may fluctuate, with the potential for the role to develop into a much more regular workload as projects progress
