ALink Recruitment are working with an engineering consultancy who are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide technical support on an ad-hoc basis during periods of increased workload across our rail projects. This flexible role is ideal for a capable and self-sufficient engineer who can quickly integrate into project teams and deliver high-quality engineering solutions with minimal supervision.

You will support the development and delivery of electrical engineering solutions across a variety of rail infrastructure projects, from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction. Working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to major rail projects throughout the UK while maintaining a strong focus on technical excellence, client satisfaction and efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and implement client specifications, standards and requirements within engineering designs and solutions.
  • Deliver electrical engineering design activities on rail and related infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Undertake technical work in accordance with company quality, safety and project management procedures.
  • Produce calculations, technical reports, specifications, schedules and design drawings.
  • Deliver technical solutions across areas including:
    • LV power distribution
    • Cable management systems
    • Lighting and lighting controls
    • Earthing and bonding
    • Energy metering
    • Sustainable and renewable energy systems
  • Support the preparation of technical proposals, bids and client presentations.
  • Deliver assigned work packages to agreed timescales, quality standards and budgets.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Support business development, networking and work-winning activities where required.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Manage multiple project commitments and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project delivery through digital tools and innovative engineering approaches.
RequirementsEssential
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (BSc, MEng, MSc or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years' post-graduate experience in electrical engineering.
  • Proven experience within the UK rail sector.
  • Strong understanding of the rail environment, standards, regulations and approval processes.
  • Experience delivering designs in accordance with TfL Pathway and/or Network Rail GRIP/PACE processes.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software such as Amtech and Dialux.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering standards and specifications within rail and infrastructure environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to challenging deadlines.
  • Proactive, adaptable and solution-focused approach to engineering challenges.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
Working Arrangement

This is not a full-time position. Work will be offered on an as-required basis to support peak workloads, project deadlines and specialist project requirements. The volume of work may vary throughout the year.
