Environmental Engineering β AI Data Trainer
About The Role
AI is rapidly advancing into highly technical domains β and we need real experts to make sure it gets things right. We're looking for environmental engineers to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models on topics like water treatment, air quality management, and hazardous waste remediation.
Your domain knowledge will directly shape how AI reasons through complex environmental problems β from contaminant transport to regulatory compliance. This is a rare opportunity to influence AI development from the inside, without leaving your field.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10β40 hours/week
What Youβll Do
- Design Complex Problems β Craft advanced environmental engineering scenarios covering contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), and more
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions β Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions β including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations β that serve as reference-quality benchmarks
- Audit AI Outputs β Evaluate AI-generated remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and mathematical proofs for technical accuracy, regulatory adherence (EPA, ISO 14001), and safety
- Improve AI Reasoning β Identify logical flaws in AI responses β such as incorrect stoichiometry in biological treatment processes or failure to account for secondary environmental impacts β and provide structured feedback to correct model behavior
Who You Are
- Pursuing or completed a Masterβs or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental focus), or a closely related discipline
- Strong foundational expertise in at least one of: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation
- Able to communicate complex technical and ecological concepts clearly and precisely in writing
- Detail-oriented with a high standard for accuracy β unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory logic all matter here
- No prior AI experience required β your engineering knowledge is what we need
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, quality assurance, or evaluation workflows
- Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, or similar)
- Background in EHS compliance or environmental consulting
Why Join Us
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs
- Fully remote and flexible β work on your own schedule, 10 to 40 hours per week
- Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
- Apply your technical expertise in a brand new way and expand your professional impact
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
