We are looking to expand our team of expert consultants with 20 lawyers for part-time, fully-remote work supporting frontier AI research. Projects pay £70–100 per hour, with higher rates for senior practitioners and recognized experts.

This role includes:

  • Designing original legal drafting and analysis tasks from scratch, spanning advices, skeleton arguments, contracts, and regulatory questions;
  • Stress-testing leading AI models on practice-level legal problems;
  • Judging whether AI-generated legal reasoning is properly authority-backed, jurisdictionally sound, and free of unsupported assertions or risky drafting, to the standard a qualified lawyer would expect.

About Aligned: At Aligned, we partner with the world's leading AI labs to push the frontier of AI knowledge in advanced fields like law, science, and engineering. Our platform matches subject-matter experts (like you) with paid consulting work on frontier projects at these labs.

Who We're Looking For: You are an experienced solicitor, barrister or advocate who drafts and analyses legal documents to a high standard and reasons carefully about how the law applies to specific facts. You can spot unsupported assertions, identify risky or ambiguous drafting, and ground your analysis in authority rather than assertion.

Ideal backgrounds include:

  • Contentious or transactional solicitors in private practice, in-house legal teams, or the Government Legal Department;
  • Barristers and advocates in independent practice or employed roles;
  • Lawyers specialising in a substantive area (e.g. corporate/M&A, IP, financial services and regulatory, employment, tax, commercial litigation);
  • Lawyers with strong legal-writing credentials like appellate practitioners, know-how and PSL lawyers, or those with a significant advisory drafting practice;
  • Compliance counsel or policy lawyers who reason about process and jurisdictional requirements;
  • Former judicial assistants, or lawyers with substantial experience drafting advices, opinions and pleadings;
  • Contributors to practitioner texts, legal scholarship, or widely-cited legal analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fluent English reading and writing skills;
  • Qualified as a solicitor, barrister, advocate or CILEX Chartered Legal Executive in England & Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland (or an equivalent foreign qualification);
  • 5+ years' PQE;
  • Track record of substantive legal drafting and analysis (advices, pleadings, opinions, transactional documents, regulatory submissions, or published legal writing).
