Alice Rose is recruiting for an experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer to step into a Working Maintenance Supervisor position within a prestigious commercial building in central London. This role is ideal for a Lead Engineer or Supervisor who thrives in a client-facing environment and enjoys managing both hands-on technical work and day-to-day team coordination.
The Role
As Working Maintenance Supervisor, you will act as the main point of coordination for all technical activities across the building. You’ll oversee a small engineering team, manage specialist contractors, ensure PPM and reactive tasks are completed to a high standard, and maintain strong relationships with tenants and stakeholders. You’ll also take a proactive approach to safety, statutory compliance, incident escalation and daily operational performance across all building systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily engineering activities and support a team of on-site engineers
- Carry out PPM, reactive maintenance and minor works across electrical & mechanical plant
- Operate and troubleshoot key building systems including BMS, AHUs, FCUs, fire alarm, VESDA, cooling systems, generators, UPS, LV panels, and emergency lighting
- Issue and manage permits under the site’s Safe System of Work
- Conduct daily site tours, identify defects and ensure prompt follow-up
- Manage specialist contractors and sign off completed works
- Maintain accurate statutory compliance records including fire, water hygiene and inspections
- Lead incident escalation and complete incident reports within required timeframes
- Ensure plant rooms, workshops and welfare areas maintain excellent housekeeping standards
- Support reporting, documentation and monthly updates for the Contract Manager
Experience & Skills Required
- Strong background in Building Services (electrical or mechanical bias)
- Supervisory or lead engineer experience in a commercial environment
- Solid understanding of BMS and critical plant systems
- Confident managing contractors and communicating with tenants/clients
- Experience working with cooling towers (preferred)
- Multi-skilled across electrical and mechanical disciplines
- Ability to work independently, make decisions and lead a team effectively
Qualifications
- Recognised apprenticeship or relevant Building Services qualification
- 18th Edition (desirable)
- L8 / Water Hygiene (including Cooling Towers) preferred
