We seek to hire a motivated attorney with significant European employment law (and preferably employment dispute resolution in the UK, France, or Germany) background to join Alibaba Cloud’s Legal & Compliance Department. In this position, you will partner closely with Alibaba Cloud’s International HR and business teams to handle a broad range of European employment and employee equity issues. This is a great opportunity for mid-to-senior-level employment lawyers to utilize employment law expertise in a truly multi-national environment. This position also provides a unique opportunity to gain expertise in the niche area of employee equity arbitration.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day counseling on various employment, contingent workforce (CWF) and other HR compliance issues in Europe (in particular the UK, the European Union and Switzerland), including recruiting and hiring, employee management, CWF management, termination, leaves and benefits, wage and hour, internal HR operation and process, etc.
- Review, revise and update a variety of employment-related agreements and HR policies, and provide guidance to HR and business teams on implementation.
- Manage workplace and employee equity compensation-related disputes.
- Provide training to internal stakeholders on employment and ESOP issues.
Job Requirements
- Legal qualification in the UK, a member state of the European Union, or another international jurisdiction.
- 5 - 7 years or above post-qualification experience practising employment or equity compensation laws in a renowned law firm, or in-house legal department of a leading multinational company. Deep experience in the UK or the EU employment laws would be a plus.
- Meaningful experience handling employment litigation/arbitration would be a plus. Experience handling equity compensation-related litigation/arbitration would be a further plus.
- Strong advocacy and oral communication skills. Fluency in oral and written English in a legal setting is required. Chinese proficiency is also essential in order to satisfy the need for effective internal communication with stakeholders in China.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; exceptional business judgment, with the ability to think strategically and give practical advice to HR and business teams.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and to multi-task in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
- High integrity and sincere desire to collaborate with others.
- Open to international travel, including to European countries, and China.
