The Opportunity / Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Despatch Operator to join our operations here in Warboys, Cambs. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, you will carry out the day to day activities associated with a busy external storage yard while operating as the senior operative leading the team to ensure customer requirements and safety standards are maintained. This includes receiving, counting, and locating stock using a forklift truck or combi-lift truck. Picking and preparing customer orders accurately ensuring that high levels of quality are maintained. Loading vehicles in drop sequences whilst complying with stringent health and safety requirements.
The shift pattern is a permanent weekly rotation position (06:30‑14:30 / 11:30‑19:30) with a requirement to work from 06:30‑12:30 every fourth Saturday.
Salary inc shift allowance: £36,292.34
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe environment and challenge the status quo
- Plan the team to optimise output levels
- Work safely and challenge unsafe practices
- Display and drive a positive & safe Health & Safety culture
- Plan the day to optimise output levels
- Pick and pack pipe products in line with customer expectations
- Communicate effectively
- Drive a forklift and side-loader to a high standard
- Maintain stock accuracy by picking accurately and by carrying out PI counts
- Carry out load audits
- Conduct start of shift briefings & provide communications as required
- Conduct shift handovers
- Flexibility to work overtime to fulfil customer requirements
- Review existing practices and highlight improvement ideas
- Flexibility to carry out all yard‑based tasks
- Provide cover for the Despatch Controller
Requirements
- A minimum of 6 months forklift experience
- Experience of leading/coordinating a team within a despatch/warehouse setting
- Evidence of picking accuracy and strong stock control knowledge
- Strong Health & Safety knowledge
- IT literate
