What You’ll Be Doing
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented BIM Technician to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing, managing, and coordinating high-quality 3D models and technical drawings across treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines, networks, and associated civil, mechanical, electrical, and process infrastructure. This role will suit someone with strong BIM and CAD capability, excellent attention to detail, and experience working within an engineering, utilities, or infrastructure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and maintain accurate BIM models, drawings, and technical documentation for water and wastewater projects.
- Develop 3D models for treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, chambers, tanks, process buildings, and associated infrastructure.
- Support multi-disciplinary design coordination across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and ICA teams.
- Prepare drawings, layouts, sections, details, and schedules in line with project requirements and client standards.
- Assist with clash detection, model reviews, and coordination meetings using BIM software and common data environments.
- Ensure BIM outputs comply with relevant standards, including ISO 19650, client BIM requirements, and project-specific information management protocols.
- Manage model data, drawing revisions, file naming, and document control procedures within the Common Data Environment.
- Work closely with engineers, designers, project managers, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely delivery of design information.
- Support the preparation of as-built models and drawings following project completion or construction updates.
- Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and consistency across all design and modelling deliverables.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in BIM processes, templates, workflows, and digital delivery standards.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a BIM Technician, CAD Technician, Digital Designer, or similar within infrastructure, utilities, water, wastewater, civil engineering, or construction.
- Experience working on water and wastewater assets such as treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines, sewerage networks, reservoirs, tanks, or process facilities.
- Proficiency in BIM and CAD software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Navisworks, Plant 3D, MicroStation Bentley OpenBuildings/OpenRoads.
- Strong understanding of BIM processes, model coordination, drawing production, and information management.
- Knowledge of ISO 19650 principles.
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, mark‑ups, specifications, and design briefs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under deadlines.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Experience with SharePoint, Asite, Viewpoint would be beneficial.
Qualifications
- HNC, HND, degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Building Services, Construction, BIM, Digital Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Autodesk, Bentley, or BIM-related certification would be advantageous.
- Relevant industry experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
- Experience delivering projects for UK water companies or regulated utility clients.
- Understanding of water industry design standards, asset information requirements, and digital delivery processes.
- Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, process, or ICA design within treatment environments.
- Experience supporting design and build, framework, or AMP-cycle water sector projects.
- Knowledge of asset data, COBie, digital twins, or information handover requirements.
