ALH Recruitment is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer position with immediate effect for our client who continues to grow and is based in the Peterborough area. This is an exciting new role to join the Engineering Design Team as a Design Engineer to support the demands of our clients growing business in liquid and powder process solution equipment. As an engineering solutions supplier to the food, beverage, brewery, bakery, dairy and utility industries throughout the UK, this role provides an opportunity to bring forward your own ideas.
Reporting to the Processing Engineering Manager, you will work on small to major projects within a team of design engineers responsible for delivering cradle‑to‑grave design deliverables to the liquid and powder process & food industry in the UK. You will be responsible for ensuring your designs conform to all relevant UK standards and align to the high standards of the department.
Role – Responsibilities- Maintain and amend existing designs.
- Incorporate the principles of hygienic design within all aspects of your work.
- Produce accurate technical drawings and designs for the engineering department, customers, and suppliers.
- Produce and manage BOMs, ensuring all changes are recorded.
- Perform mechanical design and development using SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD with a hands‑on approach.
- Work within the integrated project team to provide design solutions against requirements, and within budget and timescales.
- Carry out site surveys around the UK where relevant.
- Attend customer‑facing meetings and manage customer relationships where needed.
- Support visits and meetings at UK sites and suppliers when required.
- Liaise with the process team to align P&ID’s with 2D and 3D drawings.
- Develop and present project design proposals to the sales team and respective client(s).
- Develop a good working knowledge of the process industry.
- Develop a technical understanding of the relevant standards and regulations required to deliver compliant designs.
- Undertake specialist training required to efficiently utilise the tools for the role.
- Ability to understand and express technical concepts in both written and verbal language.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to innovate new solutions as well as apply existing solutions to problems.
- Understanding of mechanics, such as cantilever loads, point loads, and related concepts.
- Awareness of engineering mathematics.
- Good CAD proficiency – SOLIDWORKS/AutoCAD (minimum of 3 years).
- Relevant industry experience.
- Experience with Design for Manufacture.
- Creative problem solver with the ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment.
- High attention to detail and analytical, logical mindset.
- Team player.
- Awareness of relevant standards and regulations.
