We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join our client’s team, delivering engineering capital projects across the South West.
Based in Exeter with hybrid working available, this is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a background in engineering, utilities, infrastructure or construction, looking to take ownership of projects from concept through to completion.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing project scope, budgets, programmes, risks, contractors and stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to the required quality standards.
- Lead engineering capital projects and smaller workstreams from initial planning through to completion.
- Manage project budgets, expenditure, forecasts and overall cost performance.
- Develop and maintain project programmes, milestones and key delivery dates.
- Identify and manage project risks and opportunities, taking action to address potential issues.
- Coordinate consultants, contractors and external delivery partners.
- Manage NEC contracts, including early warnings, compensation events and commercial matters.
- Work with commercial teams to maintain effective financial and contractual controls.
- Ensure projects meet internal governance, regulatory and approval requirements.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and maintain clear communication across all project stakeholders.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental performance and quality.
- Oversee commissioning, handover and project close-out.
- Provide clear project updates covering progress, performance, risks and key issues.
- Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, efficiency and processes.
- Build effective relationships with operational teams, customers and key stakeholders.
About You
- Proven experience delivering engineering, utilities, infrastructure or construction projects.
- Experience managing project budgets, forecasting and cost control.
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial processes.
- Experience coordinating contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confident problem-solver with strong decision‑making capabilities.
- Able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on safety, quality, programme and commercial performance.
- Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or a related discipline.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent project management qualification.
- Ideally, chartered status or working towards professional accreditation, NEC accreditation, IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
