Positions available at West Cumberland Hospital and Northern Cancer Centre Carlisle. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established nursing team in both our Whitehaven Chemotherapy Suite West Cumberland Hospital, and the Northern Cancer Centre, Carlisle. Your preferred site of work will be determined during the interview process. Due to our expanding service, we can now extend our team with further full/part time positions (Up to 84 Hours).
The role will involve administering systemic anti-cancer treatment and supportive therapies to patients on the chemotherapy unit. Full training will be given on the unit and fully supported to achieve internal chemotherapy competencies. On completion of training there will be opportunity to work across both Carlisle and WCH chemotherapy sites if desired.

Main Duties
- Excellent communication skills and confidence when communicating with patients facing a life-limiting illness and with all members of the multidisciplinary team at all levels.
- Genuine interest in caring for patients with cancer, with a desire to develop the service and progress professionally.
- Complete cannulation and venepuncture and access central lines, with in-house training provided.
- Complete pre-assessment and triage when SACT competent.
- Demonstrate the Trust Values within everyday work.
- Registered nurse, with desirable completion of an oncology course and experience of working with cancer patients.
- Accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high-quality patient care in the Chemotherapy Suite environment.
- Trust training period and completion of SACT Passport.

Job Responsibilities
- Accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high-quality patient care in the chemotherapy environment.
- Provide effective support to patients and carers throughout their care pathway.
- Act as a role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students, participating in mentoring and preceptorship programmes.
- Abide by Trust policies and procedures.
- Provide support and, depending on experience, deputise for the nurse in charge in their absence.
- Act as a patient advocate in accordance with NMC Code and HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics.
- Work collaboratively as an effective member of the MDT.
- Participate in 24-hour on-call service when appropriate to the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential: Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch) / ODP
- Essential: NMC / HCPC registration
- Essential: Diploma / Degree in Nursing / ODP completed or willingness to undertake, or equivalent experience
- Essential: Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and ongoing professional development
- Essential: Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context
- Essential: Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding
- Desirable: Meets NMC requirements for mentorship if relevant to role
- Essential: Basic IT skills
- Desirable: Relevant clinical skills relating to the specialty (e.g. cannulation, IV drug administration)
- Essential: Relevant and recent clinical experience
- Desirable: Previous experience in specialty
