An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Clinical Physiologist to join our friendly Neurophysiology team as a Specialised Clinical Physiologist. The department is in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. This permanent position would be well suited to an individual who is looking to advance their career in Neurophysiology and gain experience in a wide range of diagnostic investigations.

You should be a qualified Clinical Physiologist in Neurophysiology with experience at an Associate Clinical Physiologist level as a minimum. You must hold or be in the process of obtaining AHCS or HCPC registration. You should also have the right to work in the UK as this post does not come with sponsorship.

Main duties of the job:

  • EEGs – routine, sleep, and portable recordings on patients of all ages with a wide variety of medical conditions.
  • Multi‑modality evoked potentials
  • Nerve conduction studies
  • Ambulatory EEG
  • Video‑telemetry EEG both in‑patient and home video‑telemetry
  • Intracranial video‑telemetry EEG
  • PSG and MSLT
  • Intra‑operative monitoring

Full training will be given for more complex investigations. The department is actively involved in student training at STP and apprenticeship levels and you would be expected to be part of this. An on‑call rota operates at weekends and bank holidays between the hours of 9 am–5 pm.

Our staff oversee around 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from various sites including Freeman Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Health Innovation Neighbourhood, Newcastle Dental Hospital, Newcastle Fertility Centre, Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria, and Northern Genetics Service.

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting‑edge care supported by state‑of‑the‑art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology.

Person Specification:

Knowledge:

  • Carry out a range of basic and complex neurophysiological investigations.
  • Experience at Associate Clinical Physiologist level in Neurophysiology.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Decision‑making skills.

Desirable:

  • Trust / NHS Structures.
  • Clinical Governance.
  • Experience of Video‑telemetry.
  • Experience of Physiologist‑led Carpal Tunnel Clinics.
  • Managerial skills and problem‑solving skills.
  • Clean driving licence.

Experience:

  • Experience at Associate Clinical Physiologist level in Neurophysiology.

  • WBA / Mentorship qualification.

Qualifications:

  • At least one of the following: BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology); Post Graduate Study in Neurosensory Science; BTEC ONC / HNC / HND in MPPM or equivalent experience + Association of Neurophysiological Scientists (ANS) Part I Examination; PG Cert in Neurophysiology + ANS Part I Examination.
  • RCCP registration or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Member ANS.
  • Driving licence.
  • ECNE/ANS Board Part 1 Examination.
