The Estates Directorate is recruiting a maintenance assistant to join the Engineering Department at Freeman Hospital. The role supports statutory and Trust Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks within a large acute teaching hospital trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with routine PPM tasks such as water tank inspections, PAT testing, emergency light testing, ventilation grille cleaning, air handling unit inspections, legionella prevention, fire alarm testing and bed maintenance.
- Conduct minor works and day‑to‑day reactive maintenance for engineering and building services.
- Support installation, repair and commissioning of plant equipment and respond to Estates emergencies.
- Maintain site and plant room tidiness and safety.
- Perform domestic appliance repairs, bed maintenance, water flushing and grille cleaning.
Qualifications & Education
Essential
- Basic building and engineering knowledge and experience within a maintenance environment.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
- Capability to work unsupervised with tools and plant equipment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic keyboard skills.
- Experience of working in an acute hospital environment.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
- Experience with specialist maintenance activities e.g. PAT testing/water sampling.
- Current driving licence.
