We are recruiting a 1.0 WTE, Band 7, Lead Specialist Liver Dietitian to join the Adult Dietetic and Hepatology Service at the Freeman Hospital within the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide inpatient and outpatient dietetic care for patients under the Newcastle hepatology service and will lead the dietetic team together with our other lead specialist dietitians.
Leadership responsibilities include:
- Clinical supervision
- Appraisals
- Job planning
- Day‑to‑day line management of a small group of staff, supported by the adult clinical dietetic manager and management team
Main Duties:
- Provide a high quality dietetic service within the specialist area of Hepatology.
- Work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team including specialist nurses, consultants and other healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate within acute and regional dietetic departments.
- Support the adult manager through service specification and meetings regarding service provision.
- Take part in student training and supervision.
- Contribute to research and audit.
Expectations and Requirements:
- Post‑registration experience in liver disease.
- Specialist training in weight management, NAFLD or liver.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD and continuous professional development.
- Ability to support colleagues and provide clinical supervision of junior staff and students.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain good relationships with MDT.
Qualifications & Education:
- Health and Care Professions Council Registered Dietitian.
- Degree in Dietetics or Science/Nutrition Degree plus Post‑graduate Diploma in Dietetics.
- Masters degree in a relevant area of practice or equivalent specialist dietetic experience.
- Evidence of specialist training in one or more areas such as nutrition support, paediatrics, home enteral feeding, or supplementary prescriber.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
- Post‑registration experience in general clinical dietetics.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in the specialist area.
- Experience in research and audit publication.
- Experience training dietetic staff, students and other healthcare staff.
- Experience supervising staff (e.g., 1‑1s, preceptorship).
Desirable:
- Initiation and publishing of original research.
- Basic training in counselling or motivational interviewing.
- Basic food hygiene knowledge.
- Experience working with a wider multidisciplinary team toward shared goals.
- Evidence of leadership training and recruitment experience.
- Service development experience within a specialist area.
Essential Skills & Abilities:
- Clinical supervisory skills course and/or teaching certificate.
- Standard keyboard skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
