In collaboration with the Clinical Head of Department, Laboratory Manager and Operational Manager, the Healthcare Scientist leads the day‑to‑day functions in the designated laboratory section to deliver technical and managerial excellence, ensuring a high‑quality scientific service that meets Service and Trust objectives.
- Act as the scientific and operational lead in the designated section, providing specialised knowledge and support for treatment pathways.
- Coordinate research and development within clinical diagnostics and oversee the performance of highly specialised tests.
- Deliver and authorise final scientific interpretation of clinical reports for patients in hospital, community and private sector.
- Maintain and troubleshoot automated laboratory equipment to guarantee continuous operation.
- Provide scientific and operational support to other laboratory areas as required.
- Lead Quality Assurance programmes and report non‑compliant events to the Quality Manager.
- Ensure compliance with local health and safety rules, departmental Health and Safety policies, and report non‑compliances to the Health and Safety team.
- Manage other sections within the department and deputise for the Operational Manager when necessary.
