Are you a flexible team player who enjoys working in a busy environment? If so, why not join us in the Northern Cancer Centre Carlisle. We are a well‑established busy, dynamic Chemotherapy Unit with a highly motivated and supportive team. We are looking for someone to join the team as a Band 2 Ward Clerk. We specialise in a wide variety of Chemotherapy treatments across both our Carlisle and Whitehaven sites. Due to our growing service we now need administrative support in our Carlisle Site.

Hours: 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week

This is a key role within the team involving all aspects of administrative work from reception/telephone duties to preparation of patient documentation for admission, ensuring the smooth running of the service. As a valued member of the team, you will benefit from working in a supportive environment, attending regular staff meetings. You will have opportunities for in‑house and trust training to help with your role.

  • Provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support and communications to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Ensure electronic notes, investigations, and patient documents/results are available for new admissions and treatment appointments.
  • Ensure that patient documents are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines, keeping patient record systems up to date and accurate.

The post holder will perform a variety of clerical duties within a team providing efficient and effective support to the clinical and admin teams in Chemotherapy:

  • Deal with incoming and outgoing post.
  • Manage referrals to the service, both paper and electronic.
  • Produce clinic and other ad‑hoc patient letters.
  • Answer telephone calls from the users of the departmental services.
  • Conduct daily postal duties.
  • Print patient labels for documentation as required, amend database of addresses as changes occur.
  • Photocopy as required.
  • Perform general filing duties.
  • Cover reception as required.
  • Schedule training for chemotherapy staff to enable them to cover, when necessary, clerical duties within the department.

Qualifications & Education: English and Maths GCSE grade 9‑4 (A‑C) or equivalent level of qualification.

Knowledge & Experience: Knowledge of office procedures. Desirable: Knowledge of medical terminology. Experience in health‑related discipline.

Skills & Abilities: Good communication skills. Typing/keyboard skills.
