We are working with a specialist school serving pupils with SEMH and ASC needs across both primary and secondary age ranges. The school has a strong, supportive leadership team and is actively developing its trauma-informed approach. They are looking for an experienced interim Deputy Headteacher to join them as soon as possible, with the role running through to the end of July 2027.

The Role

This is a full-time, non-teaching leadership position with a broad operational remit. Key responsibilities include:

  • Data, assessment and Pupil Premium oversight
  • Daily staffing and line management
  • Behaviour support and oversight of the school's physical intervention framework
  • Deputy DSL responsibilities
  • Supporting the development of trauma-informed practice across the school
  • Working alongside curriculum leads on whole-school improvement

The Candidate

The right candidate will be an experienced senior leader with a strong track record in specialist or SEMH settings. Specifically, we are looking for:

  • Substantive SLT experience in an SEMH, ASC or specialist school
  • QTS essential
  • Deputy DSL experience desirable
  • Comfortable managing challenging behaviour and supporting staff in complex situations
  • Experience of data-led leadership and Pupil Premium
  • Trauma-informed practice experience or training highly desirable
  • NPQH or other leadership qualification an advantage
  • Previous headteacher or acting headteacher experience welcome

Days: Full time, five days per week (four days/week considered)
Rate: Competitive daily rate
