We are looking for a Separation Shop Technician who shall have responsibility and accountability for the precision service, diagnostic repair, and overhaul of rotating industrial equipment, specifically high‑speed and decanter centrifuges. As a critical member of the Separation Service Team, you will apply advanced mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills to maintain OEM‑level standards. You are expected to demonstrate a passion for technical excellence, rigorous time management, and a commitment to maintaining a pristine and organized workshop environment.

Brief Description of Position:

Operating within our Scarborough Service Centre as a full‑time role, you will perform comprehensive millwright services as part of a specialized technical team reporting to Team Manager. Your responsibilities include:

  • Technical Execution: Full lifecycle servicing of high‑speed separators, decanter rotating assemblies, and gearboxes, including disassembly, industrial cleaning, repair, hand grinding, precision fitting, and balancing. Cleaning of parts & components using manual high‑pressure washer and automatic parts washing machine.
  • Machining & Fabrication: Utilizing manual lathe & milling machining skills, welding techniques & hand grinding to refurbish components to exact specifications.
  • Precision Measurement: Reading and interpreting engineered drawings and technical manuals to execute repairs within an ISO 9001 quality framework using calibrated measuring tools.
  • Safety & Compliance: Operating as a safety leader within a strict HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) framework, ensuring 100% compliance with PPE requirements and safety protocols.
  • Material Handling: Safe operation of forklifts and overhead cranes to maneuver heavy industrial rotating assemblies.
  • Adaptability: Maintaining flexibility to cross‑train on various equipment within the Alfa Laval product line as required.

Organizational Components:

  • Functional Responsibility: High. Responsible for the technical integrity of life‑critical rotating equipment.
  • Direction Received: Works under the general supervision of the Team Manager but is expected to initiate tasks and manage workflow independently.
  • Relationships: Collaborates closely with Service Coordinators, Service Center team and the Quality & HSE team to ensure project alignment and safety.
  • Work Sharing: Sharing of jobs to cover all aspects of service center activities including thermal.

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrable depth of job knowledge and specialized skill in rotating equipment.
  • Quality of Craftsmanship: Adherence to OEM tolerances and zero‑defect workmanship.
  • Efficiency: Ability to meet stringent deadlines and optimize "time‑on‑tool" to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Safety Record: Active participation in safety meetings and zero recordable incidents.

Key Competencies Needed:

  • Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of mechanical systems and industrial physics.
  • Operational Agility: Ability to pivot between diverse equipment types and technical challenges.

Education, Experience and Certification/Registration Desired:

  • Credential: Certified Journeyman Millwright or Industrial Machinist with general mechanical skills.
  • Experience: Proven track record in an industrial setting; specific experience with rotating equipment or high‑speed machinery is a significant asset.
  • Machining Skills: Proficient in the use of manual lathes, milling machine, hand grinding and other shop equipment for component reclamation.
  • Safety Mindset: A "safety‑first" attitude with the ability to identify and mitigate workshop hazards.
  • Technical Problem‑Solving: Advanced ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and implement effective solutions independently.

  • Operational Flexibility: Must be willing and able to accommodate overtime and flexible work hours to meet critical service deadlines and customer requirements.

Physical & Environmental Factors:

  • Physical Demands: Requires high physical stamina including bending, reaching, kneeling, pulling, pushing, and lifting heavy components. Extended periods of standing are required.
  • Environment: Exposure to industrial variables including hazardous materials, chemicals, high noise levels, and mechanical vibrations.

  • Flexibility: Availability for overtime and varied shift hours to meet peak service demands.

Compensation & Total Rewards:

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - 80,000 CAD annually, based on experience and role alignment. In addition to base compensation, we offer a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for growth and development.

Bonus Opportunity: This position is eligible for a target bonus of up to 4% of annual base salary depending on experience, awarded based on the achievement of company performance metrics. Actual bonus amounts are contingent on annual business results and may vary accordingly.
