Our client is a leading and rapidly growing UK utilities and civil engineering group delivering critical infrastructure across the water, energy, telecoms, and transport sectors. They are now seeking an accomplished Group Commercial Director to join their executive leadership team and shape the group's commercial direction during an exciting phase of expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction: Develop and deliver a cohesive commercial strategy to sustain growth across diverse infrastructure frameworks and major projects.
- Commercial Governance: Lead all aspects of commercial operations, including contract negotiations, risk and claims management, and profit optimisation across multiple business units.
- Client and Stakeholder Relations: Strengthen partnerships with clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies to secure long‐term opportunities and enhance organisational reputation.
- Leadership and Development: Inspire, mentor, and empower a high‐performing team of commercial professionals, instilling best practice and a results‐driven culture.
- Market Intelligence: Stay ahead of industry developments, legislation, and emerging technologies to ensure commercial agility and compliance.
- Financial Accountability: Drive disciplined P&L management, ensuring sustainable margin performance and shareholder value creation.
About You
- A minimum of ten years' senior commercial leadership experience within the UK utilities or civil engineering contracting environment.
- Proven record of managing large‐scale, multi‐million‐pound infrastructure projects from bid through to delivery.
- Exceptional commercial acumen, underpinned by strong negotiation, contract, and risk management expertise.
- Demonstrated success in leading, motivating, and developing high‐performing commercial teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‐management skills, with board‐level presence and influence.
- Degree‐qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. Quantity Surveying, Business, or Engineering).
- Deep understanding of contract law, NEC frameworks, and commercial best practice within the regulated utilities landscape.
