This is a standout opportunity for an experienced Business Development professional within the ICP/utility connections market to step into a strategic leadership role with real influence. Our client is a highly regarded Independent Connection Provider (ICP), recognised across the UK for delivering complex high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) connections with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and technical delivery. With demand accelerating across renewables, infrastructure and large-scale developments, they are entering a significant phase of growth. They are now looking to appoint a commercially astute Business Development Director to drive that next stage.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of the company’s national growth strategy, leading from the front in developing new business and strengthening key client relationships. This role will suit someone currently operating as a senior Business Development Manager or Commercial Manager within an ICP, IDNO or utility contractor who is ready to step up into a more strategic, board-facing position. You will play a key role in positioning the business as a preferred delivery partner for complex contestable works across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a clear business development strategy aligned with ambitious growth targets.
  • Identify and secure opportunities across key sectors including renewables (BESS, solar, EV infrastructure), industrial and major residential developments.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline, managing opportunities from early engagement through to contract award.
  • Leverage and expand your network across developers, IDNOs, consultants, DNOs and local authorities.
  • Act as the senior commercial lead in client discussions, negotiations and bid positioning.
  • Work closely with estimating and pre-construction teams to ensure commercially robust, competitive tenders.
  • Provide market intelligence, competitor insight and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.

The Candidate:

  • You’ll already have a strong footing in the UK connections market and be comfortable operating in a client-facing, revenue-generating role.
  • Proven track record in business development within an ICP, IDNO or utility contractor environment.
  • Strong existing network across developers, renewables and infrastructure markets.
  • Solid understanding of HV/LV connections and the contestable works landscape.
  • Experience negotiating NEC and/or JCT contracts.
  • Good working knowledge of NERS accreditation and UK regulatory frameworks.
  • Commercially driven, confident engaging at senior and board level.
