Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced Legal Cashier to join a friendly and established law firm in Bury on a maternity cover basis until August 2027.
This is a varied role where you’ll help keep the Finance Department running smoothly while ensuring compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
As this is a maternity cover position, there may also be opportunities to support wider office administration and operational tasks where required.

Key Responsibilities
- Processing client and office account receipts and payments
- Carrying out daily bank reconciliations
- Processing CHAPS & BACS payments
- Managing client-to-office transfers
- Processing supplier invoices and office account payments
- Assisting with billing and office account invoices
- Assisting with debt recovery and credit control, including monitoring outstanding balances and following up overdue payments
- Maintaining accurate financial records using the firm’s legal accounts system
- Supporting month-end finance processes
- Liaising with fee earners and colleagues regarding financial transactions and account queries
- Assisting with compliance and audit requirements
- Providing general administrative and operational support where required
- Supporting the day-to-day running of the office and assisting with office management tasks as appropriate during the period of maternity cover
- Undertaking other duties reasonably commensurate with the role to support the needs of the business
- What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working as a Legal Cashier within a law firm
- A good working knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules
- Experience using legal accounts or practice management software
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- A positive, flexible and team-focused approach
- An ILFM Diploma for Legal Cashiers (or an equivalent legal accounts qualification) would be an advantage but is not essential
