Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Engineering to lead the engineering function across a large, complex operational environment. This is a senior leadership role responsible for delivering maintenance, reliability and asset performance across plant, equipment and infrastructure, ensuring a fully integrated 24/7 engineering support function to operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing engineering teams, managing budgets (Opex & Capex), driving continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop the engineering and maintenance function across the division
- Ensure delivery of all maintenance activities across plant, equipment and infrastructure
- Maintain high levels of asset reliability and availability to support operational demands
- Develop and manage Opex and Capital maintenance budgets, aligned to business plans
- Deliver maintenance strategies in line with a 3-year capital plan
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, productivity and cost performance
- Provide leadership on health, safety and environmental standards, promoting a zero-harm culture
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations including LOLER, PUWER, PSSR, EAWR and LEV
- Oversee machinery safety and engineering compliance projects
- Produce and deliver monthly reports and KPIs to senior leadership
- Utilise and develop SAP EAM systems to enhance maintenance performance and asset management
- Support engineering projects and wider business initiatives
- Lead organisational change and implement engineering strategies across the division
- Develop engineering team capability through training, coaching and mentoring
- Manage stakeholder relationships across operations, finance, HR, purchasing and external partners
- Ensure all engineering activity aligns with wider business strategy and group initiatives
- Proven experience operating at Head of Engineering or senior leadership level
- Strong background within engineering, manufacturing, industrial or heavy asset environments
- Experience managing maintenance functions across large-scale operations
- Experience managing Opex and Capex budgets
- Understanding of engineering compliance and statutory requirements
- Experience with CMMS / SAP EAM systems
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency
- Engineering Degree, HNC/HND or time-served apprenticeship with further development
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely (desirable)
