ALEXANDRA AND CRESTVIEW SURGERIES JOB DESCRIPTION MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST

RESPONSIBLE TO: Reception Manager

MAIN PURPOSE: To act as a focal point of communication between the patients, doctors, and other members of the primary health care team. To ensure the day-to-day activities of the practice are carried out accordingly. Liaison with other members of the Primary Health Care team to provide continuity and effective desired overall care of Practice patients.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice, 100% is to be given to each person at any one time.
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Website is to be checked daily via the internal rota for patient requests. Action tasks as necessary.
  • Check generic email address and action.
  • Photocopy documentation as required.
  • Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required, calls are to be answered promptly.
  • Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.
  • The surgery script is to be followed when answering the telephone to always ensure a professional manner.
  • Enter requests for home visits onto the computer system, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor.
  • Action repeat prescription requests as necessary and ensure that they are ready for the patient within 3 working days.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non-General Medical Services) services.
