Role Description

The Venue Director is a full-time, on-site leadership role based at Alexandra Arts Centre in Bognor Regis.

The role is responsible for the overall management and operation of the venue, including programming oversight, visitor experience, commercial performance, and day-to-day coordination of activities.

The Venue Director will lead and support the venue team, oversee staffing schedules, manage budgets, and ensure the building operates safely, efficiently, and in line with regulatory requirements.

They will develop and maintain partnerships with artists, community groups, local businesses, and stakeholders to deliver a diverse, high-quality programme that reflects the community and grows audiences.

Day-to-day tasks include monitoring venue performance, reviewing operational policies, managing contracts and suppliers, overseeing marketing and audience development plans, and representing Alexandra Arts Centre at meetings, events, and public engagements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in venue, theatre, arts centre, or cultural space management, with responsibility for day-to-day operations and team leadership.
• Strong skills in budget management, financial planning, and commercial performance, including forecasting, monitoring, and reporting.
• Experience in programming or curating live events, arts activities, or community programmes, ideally across diverse art forms and audiences.
• Knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding, licensing, and compliance requirements for public venues.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with artists, community organisations, partners, and local stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to represent the venue professionally and confidently.
• Strong people management skills, including recruitment, coaching, performance management, and fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture.
• Experience in audience development, marketing collaboration, and customer service, with a focus on welcoming and accessible visitor experiences.
• Organisational and project management skills, with the ability to deliver multiple activities and events.
