About the Role
Our client is a leading food manufacturing business who are currently investing heavily into various sites across the country. They are currently looking for an Engineering Shift Lead to join them working as a number 2 to the Site Engineering Manager. This position offers great experience for someone who is looking to progress into key leadership roles within a maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop engineering teams to maximise capability, engagement, and performance.
- Set clear expectations around safety, behaviours, standards, and accountability.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and skills development.
- Maintain training plans, competency frameworks, and engineering skills matrices.
- Drive performance management, attendance management, and employee development.
- Coordinate engineering resources effectively to support operational priorities.
- Drive plant reliability, equipment effectiveness, and engineering performance.
- Lead Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities and ensure completion targets are met.
- Reduce downtime through effective fault finding, breakdown response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Use engineering data and KPIs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Food Safety, GMP, and all relevant legislation.
- Support audits, compliance checks, and incident investigations.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and maintenance documentation.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience
- Recognised engineering qualification (electrical, mechanical, or multi-skilled).
- Proven engineering fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
- Experience within FMCG, food manufacturing, production, or similar environments.
- Experience leading or supervising engineering teams.
- Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
Desirable
- PLC and controls experience.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement knowledge.
- Project management experience.
- Experience within complex manufacturing environments.
- Budget or cost centre awareness.
- Contractor management experience.
