Here at Alexander Steele Recruitment, we are working with a leading food manufacturer in Berkshire who are looking to appoint an experienced Technical Manager to lead and drive food safety, quality, and compliance across their manufacturing site. This is a key senior position within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of technical standards, manage audits, strengthen customer relationships, and lead continuous improvement across the operation.
The Role
As Technical Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all technical, quality assurance and food safety activity onsite, ensuring products meet customer expectations, legal standards, and internal specifications. You’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining and improving the site’s food safety and quality management systems while leading the technical, QA, and hygiene teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the site’s Technical, QA and Hygiene teams
- Maintain compliance across food safety, quality and legal requirements
- Develop and implement HACCP, allergen controls, traceability and testing schedules
- Own internal and external audits including corrective actions and reporting
- Manage customer complaints, investigations, and technical queries
- Ensure raw material and finished product specifications are accurate and up to date
- Provide technical support to Production and NPD teams
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality and food safety culture
- Manage supplier approvals and supply chain risk assessments
- Support export labelling and technical compliance where required
About You
This opportunity would suit a proven Technical Manager or an experienced QA/Technical lead ready to step into a site-leading role within food manufacturing. You’ll be confident dealing with customers, auditors and regulators, and enjoy building a “right first time” culture across the site.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a Technical or Quality Management role within food manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and quality systems
- Experience with audits (including BRCGS and retailer standards)
- Strong understanding of allergen management, traceability and compliance
- Degree in Food Science / Food Technology / Microbiology (or similar) preferred
- HACCP Level 4 and Food Safety Management qualifications desirable
