Health And Safety Advisor in Guildford

I am working with an established but growing manufacturing site in Surrey that is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor to join the team.

This is a hands-on, site-based position where you will take an active role in driving health and safety standards across the operation. You’ll work closely with site leadership, managers and employees to ensure the business continues to maintain a safe, compliant and proactive working environment.

The role would suit someone who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, building relationships across the business and taking a practical approach to improving health and safety standards.

Key Accountabilities

• Take an active role in delivering the site Health & Safety plan, working closely with management teams to identify priorities, improve standards and ensure compliance with UK legislation and company requirements.
• Maintain a strong presence across the site, carrying out inspections and safety walkarounds, completing and reviewing risk assessments, COSHH assessments, SOPs and safe systems of work, and ensuring appropriate controls are in place for equipment, processes and site changes.
• Support and coach managers and employees on all areas of Health & Safety, including delivering inductions, toolbox talks and training, maintaining training records and helping managers understand their responsibilities.
• Manage the reporting and investigation of accidents, incidents, hazards and near misses, carrying out root cause analysis and ensuring corrective actions are followed through to completion. You will also use H&S data to identify trends, recurring risks and areas for improvement.
• Support internal and external audits, contractor management, statutory assessments, emergency arrangements and health surveillance, while contributing to wider environmental, sustainability and continuous improvement activities across the site.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous hands-on Health & Safety experience within manufacturing or another fast-paced operational environment, with a good working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and common manufacturing risks such as machinery, workplace transport, chemicals, manual handling and working at height.
• Practical experience completing risk assessments and COSHH assessments, developing safe systems of work and supporting incident and near-miss investigations through to corrective action and closure.
• Confident working with managers and employees at all levels, with experience delivering inductions, training or toolbox talks. You will be comfortable challenging unsafe practices and taking ownership of actions through to completion.
• Strong organisational, reporting and analytical skills with good attention to detail. A NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent would be advantageous, although candidates working towards the qualification will also be considered. Knowledge of ISO 45001/14001, IOSH membership and experience across contractor safety, auditing, emergency preparedness or environmental improvement would also be beneficial.
