Alexander Steele is working with a highly regarded food manufacturer based in Edinburgh to recruit a Food Technologist to join their growing technical team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-award-winning, small, family-run business with a reputation for producing exceptional, hand-crafted products using only the finest ingredients. With over 100 Great Taste Awards and ambitious growth plans—including the expansion of their Edinburgh-based production site—this is a fantastic time to get involved.
The Role:
This is a hands-on position offering a diverse mix of responsibilities across compliance, product development, and sustainability. You’ll work closely with a highly experienced Technical Consultant and production management team, gaining exposure to all aspects of food manufacturing in a high-standard, BRCGS Grade AA facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with food safety, legal, and quality standards
- Maintain and update internal systems, including BRCGS and Soil Association Organic certification
- Manage quality systems such as HACCP and TACCP
- Conduct internal audits and support external audits
- Assist with new product development, from concept through to launch
- Support the business in tracking emissions and contributing to sustainability planning
- Handle customer technical queries and ensure technical documentation is accurate and up to date
- Communicate relevant legal and industry updates internally
- Contribute to technical training and management reviews
The Ideal Candidate:
- A degree in Food Quality Management or a related field is preferred (but not essential with relevant experience)
- Experience in a similar role within a food manufacturing environment (during or post-study)
- Familiarity with BRCGS standards and food labelling requirements
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Eagerness to learn and take initiative within a small, fast-paced team
- Passion for working in a high-quality food manufacturing environment
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum + Benefits
