Alexander Steele is working with a highly regarded food manufacturer based in Edinburgh to recruit a Food Technologist to join their growing technical team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-award-winning, small, family-run business with a reputation for producing exceptional, hand-crafted products using only the finest ingredients. With over 100 Great Taste Awards and ambitious growth plans—including the expansion of their Edinburgh-based production site—this is a fantastic time to get involved.

The Role:

This is a hands-on position offering a diverse mix of responsibilities across compliance, product development, and sustainability. You’ll work closely with a highly experienced Technical Consultant and production management team, gaining exposure to all aspects of food manufacturing in a high-standard, BRCGS Grade AA facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, legal, and quality standards
  • Maintain and update internal systems, including BRCGS and Soil Association Organic certification
  • Manage quality systems such as HACCP and TACCP
  • Conduct internal audits and support external audits
  • Assist with new product development, from concept through to launch
  • Support the business in tracking emissions and contributing to sustainability planning
  • Handle customer technical queries and ensure technical documentation is accurate and up to date
  • Communicate relevant legal and industry updates internally
  • Contribute to technical training and management reviews

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A degree in Food Quality Management or a related field is preferred (but not essential with relevant experience)
  • Experience in a similar role within a food manufacturing environment (during or post-study)
  • Familiarity with BRCGS standards and food labelling requirements
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach
  • Eagerness to learn and take initiative within a small, fast-paced team
  • Passion for working in a high-quality food manufacturing environment

Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum + Benefits
