We are supporting them in their search for an Assistant Technical Manager to join their technical team. This is a key position within the business, offering an excellent opportunity for a food industry professional to further their career in a fast-paced, high-quality production environment.

The Opportunity

As Assistant Technical Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the business continues to operate as a fully compliant Food Business Operator (FBO) and EC-approved site. You will help lead the charge on food safety, technical compliance, and quality standards across the site, supporting the delivery of excellence to both customers and regulatory bodies. You will be based at the company’s site in Inverurie and report directly to the Technical Manager. This is a hands-on role where proactive involvement and leadership are essential.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing the supplier approval process, including documentation and performance monitoring.
  • Overseeing key food safety and quality KPIs and ensuring regular reporting.
  • Supporting internal and external audits, including BRC and customer audits.
  • Deputising for the Technical Manager when required.
  • Handling complaint investigations using root cause analysis and reporting on trends.
  • Leading training initiatives across food safety, hygiene, allergens, and microbiology awareness.
  • Monitoring microbiological, chemical, and environmental testing, and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken.
  • Creating and managing specifications for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
  • Reviewing and verifying food labels in line with legal and customer requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with operations, supply chain, and finance to maintain compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Driving a culture of food safety and quality excellence across the business.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience in a food production or food manufacturing environment.
  • A strong technical background with relevant qualifications such as HACCP, Food Labelling, Internal Auditor certification, and Allergen Training.
  • A confident, practical approach with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across teams.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic attitude, ideally with a genuine passion for food.

Qualifications and Training (preferred but not essential):

  • HACCP Training (AIG)
  • Food Labelling and Allergen Training (FSA/FSS)
  • Internal Auditor Certification
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene
  • Training in Traceability, Root Cause Analysis, and Vacuum/Modified Atmosphere Packing
