Maintenance Engineer

Monday - Friday (9am - 5.30pm)

Location: Chatham, Kent

Salary: Β£40,000 - Β£45,000

Alexander Steele are delighted to be supporting an FMCG manufacturing business in their search for a Maintenance Engineer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance activities to ensure maximum equipment reliability and minimal production downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to breakdowns and complete fault-finding activities.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and performance.
  • Utilise the CMMS system to manage work orders, maintenance records, and spare parts.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety, food safety, and site standards.
  • Maintain engineering tools and equipment in a safe working condition.
  • Work closely with production teams to maximise plant performance.
  • Support engineering projects and other maintenance activities as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working as a Maintenance Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, bearings, electrical control systems, and process equipment.
  • Experience using CMMS systems.
  • A proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • FMCG or food manufacturing experience.
  • Engineering qualifications (electrical or mechanical).
  • Experience driving continuous improvement activities.
