Role Overview
My client is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering function, working closely with the hands-on Engineering Manager as part of a two-person team. This is a practical, site-based role supporting the safe, efficient and reliable operation of food manufacturing equipment and facilities. The successful candidate will have proven experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within food manufacturing, and will be comfortable taking responsibility, fault-finding under pressure, and contributing to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across production and packaging equipment
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime
- Work collaboratively with the Engineering Manager on daily maintenance activities, breakdowns and improvement projects
- Support installation, commissioning and modification of machinery and equipment
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with food safety, hygiene, health & safety and engineering standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders as required
- Assist with contractor supervision where necessary
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance processes
- Support production teams to ensure smooth, efficient operation of the site
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing environment
- Strong fault-finding skills in both electrical and mechanical systems
- Experience working with production machinery (motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, basic PLC fault-finding)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team
- Strong understanding of health & safety in an industrial setting
Desirable:
- Experience within the food manufacturing industry
- Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, BRC, SALSA or similar)
- Electrical qualifications (e.g. 18th Edition)
- Welding or fabrication skills
