Role Overview:

As Head of Engineering, you will be accountable for engineering execution, delivery performance, and technical architecture across all software, hardware, and AI platforms. You will own how we build, how fast we ship, and how reliably we operate - ensuring a consistently high pace and quality of execution across the business. You will act as the principal architect for the technology platforms, owning the long-term software and data architecture strategy and ensuring all systems are designed for scalability, security, performance, and commercial impact. Reporting directly to the Founders and operating as a key member of the management team, you will lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering organisation of approximately 25 engineers spanning mobile, web, backend, hardware integration, and AI. You will work closely with the Head of Product, who owns product strategy, roadmap, and prioritisation, and the Operations Director, who is accountable for customer delivery and commercial performance. Together, we will ensure our company delivers scalable, reliable, and commercially impactful technology to the construction industry. This role is ideal for a senior engineering leader who thrives in high-growth environments, balances technical excellence with commercial awareness, and is driven by predictable, high-quality delivery at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and define the end-to-end software and data architecture across mobile, web, backend, hardware integrations, data platforms, and AI systems, setting long-term technical direction, standards, and design principles to ensure scalability, security, and high-quality data foundations across the business.
  • Lead execution of the full technology roadmap across software, hardware, data, and AI, ensuring delivery is predictable, high quality, and aligned to business priorities.
  • Provide senior leadership and overall accountability for engineering performance, including talent development, hiring strategy, and capability building across all engineering disciplines.
  • Improve engineering efficiency and delivery predictability by establishing strong processes, quality standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Establish and maintain robust engineering, data, and AI governance to ensure scalability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Product on technical feasibility, sequencing, resourcing, and delivery timelines.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Commercial teams to ensure technology delivery supports customer success, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Build a strong engineering culture focused on ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.

Essential Requirements:

  • Senior engineering leadership experience in a SaaS, platform, or technology-led environment.
  • Proven track record of leading and scaling teams of 20+ engineers across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Deep understanding of modern data architectures, including event-driven systems, data platforms, analytics, and AI/ML integration within SaaS products.
  • Proven ability to define and evolve large-scale, distributed software systems, making strategic, long-term architectural and platform design decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to own delivery performance, improve predictability, and raise engineering quality and pace.
  • Experience working closely with product and commercial leadership to align technology delivery with business outcomes.
  • Comfortable operating at management and board level, communicating technical, architectural, and delivery topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Comfortable engaging at code, system design, and data model level when required, particularly for critical platform and architectural decisions.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, industrial tech, or regulated industries.
  • Exposure to data platforms and AI delivery in production environments.
  • Background in scaling technology organisations in high-growth or start-up environments.
