Job description
This is a great opportunity to join our team as a Field Interviewer working for the Office for National Statistics via AMS. As a Field Interviewer carrying out official surveys you will helping to inform Government about the state of the nation.
The role will start with 5 weeks of comprehensive training to ensure your success in the role.
The Field Interviewer role will be a mix of visiting sampled addresses to encourage them to complete surveys as well as interviewing respondents in their homes.
This role is not office based. You are required to work within a 40-mile radius (approx.) of an allocated location. Your work will be allocated to ensure that you can travel and complete your work within your contracted hours in this area. Therefore, you need to consider how you will be able to achieve this based on your home location in comparison to your chosen location preference.
This role comes with flexible working hours that we hope will meet your needs as well as ours. This will be broadly equivalent to 22 hours work per week.
To ensure that we reach respondents, interviews will need to be conducted between the hours of 09:00 – 20:00 and there is a potential for admin and travel time outside of these hours.
Interviewers will need to work across mornings, afternoons, and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.
What we are we looking for
We are looking for individuals who have a friendly, outgoing personality and the confidence to approach and converse with a wide selection of people. You will need to have excellent communication skills to be the face of ONS and, where needed, to persuade any reluctant member of the public to take part in our surveys and to be interviewed.
You will also be responsible for planning, organising and managing your own workloads, we will provide full training and support to help you with this.
Requirements of the role
- Be able to transport and carry equipment such a laptop and survey materials with you, on occasion walk between addresses and navigate stairs when out in the field.
- Live within a 10 mile radius of the location and have the ability to travel to addresses within a 40 mile radius from the advertised location.
- Interviews will need to be conducted between the hours of 09:00 – 20:00. Hours will need to be split evenly across mornings, afternoons, and evenings, with flexibility to work on Saturdays if required.
- Experience of using a laptop and a smartphone.
- To be self-disciplined, self-motivated and happy to work without supervision.
- Have excellent verbal communication skills and enjoy meeting and talking to people.

Essential Requirements
- Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service eligibility rules
- Full valid UK Driving License (inclusive of the rights of EU Nationals) & full use of a car for work purposes including business use

Selection process details

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a video interview lasting between 30 and 45 minutes.
At interview, you will be assessed on your suitability for the role by providing us with evidence in the interview to support what you have included in your application. Successful candidates must undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks and a criminal record check.
