This is an exciting opportunity to join a modern, innovative and inclusive team that sits at the heart of public service delivery.

This is a great opportunity to join our team as a Field Interviewer working for the Office for National Statistics via AMS. As a Field Interviewer carrying out official surveys you will help to inform Government about the state of the nation. The role will start with 5 weeks of comprehensive training to ensure your success in the role. The Field Interviewer role will be a mix of visiting sampled addresses to encourage them to complete surveys as well as interviewing respondents in their homes. This role is not office based. You are required to work within a 40-mile radius (approx.) of an allocated location. Your work will be allocated to ensure that you can travel and complete your work within your contracted hours in this area.

This role comes with flexible working hours that we hope will meet your needs as well as ours. This will be broadly equivalent to 22 hours work per week. To ensure that we reach respondents, interviews will need to be conducted between the hours of 09:00 – 20:00 and there is a potential for admin and travel time outside of these hours. Interviewers will need to work across mornings, afternoons, and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.

What we are looking for:

  • Individuals who have a friendly, outgoing personality and the confidence to approach and converse with a wide selection of people.
  • Excellent communication skills to be the face of ONS and, where needed, to persuade any reluctant member of the public to take part in our surveys and to be interviewed.
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage your own workloads.

Requirements of the role:

  • Be able to transport and carry equipment such as a laptop and survey materials.
  • Live within a 10 mile radius of the location and have the ability to travel to addresses within a 40 mile radius from the advertised location.
  • Interviews will need to be conducted between the hours of 09:00 – 20:00.
  • Hours will need to be split evenly across mornings, afternoons, and evenings, with flexibility to work on Saturdays if required.
  • Experience of using a laptop and a smartphone.
  • Self-disciplined, self-motivated and happy to work without supervision.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and enjoy meeting and talking to people.

Essential Requirements:

  • Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service eligibility rules.
  • Full valid UK Driving License & full use of a car for work purposes including business use.
  • Proof of Identity.
  • Have a broadband internet connection at your home address prior to taking up an offer of employment.

Competencies: We will assess you against these competencies during the selection process: Communication and Influencing, Problem Solving and Prioritisation and Resilience.

Selection process details: Assessment at application stage will be based on your work history, skills and experience and personal statement. Your application should be tailored to demonstrate any skills, knowledge and experience that are relevant to the content of the role. If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a video interview lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. At interview, you will be assessed on your suitability for the role by providing us with evidence in the interview to support what you have included in your application. You should make time to familiarise yourself with the required competencies before interview, and have any questions that you may wish to ask prepared.

Security: Successful candidates must undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks and a criminal record check.
