On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Data Engineer (Informatica) for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds or Newcastle.

Core Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer (Informatica) to support the enhancement and modernisation of DWP's data integration services. You will work within a Legacy Informatica PowerCenter environment, helping to reduce technical debt, improve data quality, enhance existing data pipelines and support the ongoing migration of services to the cloud. You will help ensure business critical data remains accessible, performant and trusted by users across the organisation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Build and manage data pipelines using Informatica PowerCenter and SAS Enterprise Guide, including extracting, combining, cleansing and loading data from multiple source systems into target environments.
  • Ensure data quality through validation, standardisation and the application of consistent business rules before data is released for use.
  • Develop and maintain error handling, monitoring and logging within mappings, scripts and procedures to support issue identification and resolution.
  • Use parameterisation techniques, including parameter files, to create flexible, reusable and maintainable workflows.
  • Follow development standards and best practices when building solutions.
  • Test thoroughly by creating and using test data to make sure mappings and processes work as expected.
  • Diagnose and fix issues by reading Informatica logs and understanding root causes.
  • Monitor data loads by building control tables and mechanisms to show whether jobs ran successfully.
  • Develop and maintain Informatica transformations and expressions to ensure data is processed accurately and efficiently.
  • Deploy solutions in line with agreed release processes, including version control, labelling and configuration management.

Essential

  • Strong Informatica PowerCenter experience.
  • Strong SQL and database knowledge, particularly Oracle and data warehouse structures (e.g. dimensional models, SCD types).
  • Experience building and managing ETL processes, including data extraction, transformation, cleansing and loading activities.
  • Scripting skills (Unix/Bash) to support data movement, cleansing and automation.
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • SC Clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain SC Clearance.

Desirable

  • Experience with SAS Enterprise Guide.
  • Experience supporting Legacy and on premises data integration platforms.
  • Previous experience working within UK Government or other public sector organisations.

PLEASE NOTE: SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
