On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Java Developer for a 12 month contract (Inside IR35) based Hybrid in Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle. Join DWP's Digital team supporting the Government's Job Guarantee programme, helping young people into work. You'll play a key role in the ongoing development of the platform, building modern digital services that support citizen journeys, provider engagement and payment processes within Agile delivery teams.

As a Senior Java Developer your main responsibilities will be:

  • Building and enhancing Spring Boot microservices.
  • Developing scalable cloud based services in AWS.
  • Writing automated tests using TDD practices and modern testing frameworks.
  • Contributing to event driven solutions and integrations.
  • Owning complex features from design through to delivery.
  • Supporting code reviews and promoting engineering best practice.
  • Collaborating with Product Managers, Architects, Business Analysts and QA teams.
  • Supporting the delivery of a major DWP digital programme.

Essential:

  • Strong Java development experience (Java 17+).
  • Spring Boot.
  • REST APIs and Microservices.
  • Test Driven Development (TDD) using frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
  • Agile delivery environments.
  • Experience building cloud native applications in AWS or Azure.

Desirable:

  • Event Driven Architecture.
  • Kafka or messaging technologies.
  • Docker.
  • Kubernetes or OpenShift.
  • CI/CD pipelines.
  • MongoDB.
  • Cucumber.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
