About Us
The ITS Systems Team is responsible for the Traffic Scotland System and the services that support the safe and efficient operation of Scotland's trunk road network. These services include our public-facing web platforms, CCTV management, journey time monitoring and the control of electronic road signs. We act as the client for the Traffic Scotland Systems Contract, overseeing supplier performance and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, resilient services.
Our current system is based on ageing platforms and architecture. We are at the start of an exciting multi-year transformation that will replace it with modern, streamlined and more cost-effective solutions. This programme will simplify our delivery model and strengthen the impact and agility of Traffic Scotland services.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the ITS Systems Team as we prepare for this major transformation. Your primary focus will be understanding, documenting and safeguarding the configuration of our existing systems, with particular emphasis on the algorithmic responses used to control Variable Message Signage across the Scottish Trunk Road Network.
The Traffic Scotland System has evolved organically over the last 30 years. As a result, its configuration is complex and dispersed. You will play a crucial role in baselining this information to ensure it can be effectively transitioned into our new systems estate and used to support the ongoing delivery of safe, reliable services to the public.
As a Systems Configuration Analyst your main responsibilities will be to:
- Document the current Traffic Scotland system configuration, particularly the logic behind Variable Message Signage.
- Work with operational teams and contractors to gather and validate long-standing configuration information.
- Create a clear, maintainable method for storing and managing configuration data.
- Support the migration of existing configurations into new platforms.
- Present technical information in clear, accessible formats for long-term use.
- Contribute to wider ITS Systems Team activities, including supplier management for the Traffic Scotland System and associated services.
Essential:
- Experience analysing, capturing and presenting complex information sets from multiple sources.
- Demonstrable expertise in creating processes and tools capable of managing systems configuration data.
- Demonstrable experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders, developing and maintaining credible relationships and experience in providing advice and support to a senior level.
- Experience of contract management and successfully delivering a range of priorities in a complex and challenging environment with a flexible approach to team working.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Intelligent Transport Systems equipment and their control methods.
- Experience of IT architecture and data systems.
- Experience of systems configuration management and systems transition/change programmes.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
