On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a Senior Software Developer (Inside IR35) for an initial 3 month contract with potential to extend. Hybrid working with occasional travel to Exeter.

We're looking for an exceptional Software Developer who shares our amazing values to help us make a difference to our planet by using cutting edge technologies to provide world-leading meteorological information to our customers around the world. We're responsible for the systems that deliver critical weather and climate data to users across the UK and beyond. Through scalable APIs and cloud-native services, our team ensures fast, reliable access to forecast and observation data, supporting everyone from emergency responders and government to businesses and the public.

In Data Services, you'll be engineering solutions using Python and AWS Cloud Computing to bridge the gap between advanced scientific modelling and the platforms our users rely on every day. You'll be getting hands on with the output of our cutting-edge supercomputing capabilities, handling terabytes of data daily, and making system performance, scalability, and reliability essential elements of your work.

Essential:

  • An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role; as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks.
  • Experience of cloud-native development on AWS, with experience designing, owning and evolving infrastructure using AWS CDK and CloudFormation.
  • Advanced software engineering in Python, including designing, building, testing and maintaining complex large-scale, production-grade systems.
  • Experience with serverless architecture.
  • Prototyping experience.
  • Experience of leading on projects and providing guidance to team members.

Desirable:

  • Public Sector experience.
  • Experience with geospatial data and associated tools eg QGIS.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
