On behalf of Defra, we are looking for a Commercial Engagement Manager (Inside IR35) for a 12 Month contract based Remotely with occasional travel. In the Defra group, we deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people's lives. We are responsible for England's environment, our countryside and rural economy, the food and farming sectors and have lead responsibility for protection from a wide range of natural threats and hazards. As a Commercial Engagement Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Build trust across diverse stakeholders with competing interests (vendors, operators, regulators).
- Navigate commercial sensitivities whilst maintaining government impartiality.
- Challenge constructively and escalate issues appropriately.
- Technical and commercial translation: be able to articulate between technical API requirements and vendor business models.
- Explain regulatory needs in terms vendors understand.
- Articulate operator constraints to technical teams.
- Make complex trade-offs accessible to decision makers.
- Problem-solving with incomplete information: Identify root causes of adoption barriers.
You'll work across policy, delivery, regulation and industry - requiring flexibility, stakeholder empathy, and ability to see the system-level picture.
Essential:
- Previous experience on Delivering government projects within a similar position.
Desirable:
- Software related background is highly desirable.
