On behalf of Department Business and Trade, we are looking for a AI Transformation Director (Inside IR35) for a 6 Month contract based Hybrid in London. SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Define and lead a clear, ambitious transformation strategy aligned to departmental priorities and cross-government reform.
  • Bring together major programmes (AI Transformation, High Performing Department, Matrix/FESSP, Efficiencies, Corporate Services Continuous Improvement) into a coherent portfolio with clear priorities and oversee delivery.
  • Ensure strong programme grip with clear governance, sequencing, and dependency management.
  • Drive measurable impact, ensuring all transformation activity delivers quantifiable benefits.
  • Work closely with DG groups and core teams including Strategy, DDaT and HR to shape and deliver transformation collectively.
  • Develop and deliver a clear, compelling transformation narrative and engagement plan for staff to bring the transformation journey to life and ensure local ownership.
  • Lead the shift to a high-performing, accountable and outcome-focused culture.
  • Act as a visible senior leader, providing advice and challenge to DGCOO, ExCo and Ministers.

Essential:

  • Proven experience leading large-scale, complex transformation programmes at enterprise level.
  • Experience shaping organisational culture and leading workforce transformation.
  • Credible leadership in digital, data or AI-enabled transformation.
  • Strong strategic leadership with the ability to set direction and drive delivery at pace.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills at ExCo/Ministerial level.
  • Ability to integrate multiple programmes into a coherent whole.
  • Active Security Clearance need for this position.
