We are AMS. We are a global total workforce solutions firm; we enable organisations to thrive in an age of constant change by building, re-shaping, and optimising workforces. Our Contingent Workforce Solutions (CWS) service partner with Tesco IMS to support contingent recruitment hiring.

On behalf of Tesco IMS, AMS are now looking for a System Engineer for a 6 month contract based in the bank's Edinburgh office on a hybrid working model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a System Engineer you will work within a team environment helping to migrate a number of Windows and RHEL applications from 1 AWS account to another.
  • Use DevOps tools to design and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate software builds, testing, and deployment.
  • Recommend process improvements to ensure system scalability and reliability.
  • Monitor and maintain cloud infrastructure, optimise system performance, ensuring security, and troubleshooting issues are integral parts of the role.
  • Testing: Develop product specifications and design test procedures.
  • Faults Diagnosis and Correction: Provide fault isolation and resolution for complex challenges to limit and address issues promptly.
  • Applications Software Maintenance: Monitor, identify, and correct more complex software defects to maintain fully functioning applications software.
  • Planning and Organising: Works with guidance (but not constant supervision) to plan, organise, prioritise and oversee activities to efficiently meet project objectives.
  • Troubleshoots Technical Issues: Works with full competence to employ a systematic process for solving technical issues by identifying the problem and selecting an appropriate solution.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • You will have strong background in software development, RHEL/WINTEL OS system administration and cloud technologies with a deep understanding of DevOps principles, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle by collaborating with development, operations and testing teams to achieve faster and more reliable releases.
  • Able to use tools ie SNYK to resolve any code security vulnerabilities.
  • Possess strong coding skills and be familiar with version control systems like Github Enterprise.
  • Good operational knowledge of the AWS Cloud Platform.
  • Able to demonstrate good working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools using Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Good working knowledge of automation tools like Ansible.
  • System Administration: Good working knowledge of RHEL8, from a system administrative perspective adding security protocols etc.
  • Problem-solving, strong communication, and the ability to work in an agile environment are essential skills.
  • Network/IT security: Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on maintaining the security, integrity, compliance and continuity of IT systems and services.
  • IT Support: Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on monitoring, diagnosing and fixing technological problems.
