Skilled General Machinist – 12 month contract – Derby

On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs, we are looking for a Skilled General Machinist for a 12 month contract based in Derby.

Job description - the role

As a Machinist, you will be responsible for delivering against weekly targets to meet customer requirements. You will also work with cross functional teams to implement and sustain improvement activities within our manufacturing environment.

As a Skilled General Machinist, you will:

  • Follow technical instructions and program manuals to deliver consistent, high‑quality machining across a variety of different components and product families.
  • Operate a variety of inspection equipment, both mechanical and electronic.
  • Interpret manufacturing drawings, customer drawings and written specifications.
  • Assess whether the quality of components produced meet required standards.
  • Engage in effective teamwork to resolve quality issues and ensure work is being completed to plan.
  • Have scope to train and work across a variety of machines.

Who we are looking for:

  • Applicants must have a time served advanced apprenticeship with a minimum of City & Guilds Level 3, National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)/Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 3 or equivalent.
  • To support your application please attach a copy of your certificate as proof of completing a recognised apprenticeship together with your CV.
  • Experience with aerospace components would be preferable.
  • Clear and demonstrated understanding of drawing interpretation, calibration, dimensional and visual inspection.
  • Pro‑active, patient, capable of managing time effectively.

We will only accept workers operating via an Umbrella or PAYE engagement model.
