On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs, we are looking for a Materials Engineer for a 12 month contract based in Bristol (hybrid).
Job description - the role
The role is ideally suited to someone who can apply materials knowledge in a practical production setting and has experience supporting manufacturing operations rather than purely research-based activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide materials engineering support to ongoing manufacturing and production activities.
- Lead and support material qualification and approval activities for new and existing products.
- Assess material selection requirements and provide technical recommendations to engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Investigate material-related non-conformances, production issues, and failure mechanisms, implementing effective corrective actions.
- Support manufacturing processes and methods, identifying opportunities for process improvement and enhanced material performance.
- Review and assess engineering drawing changes where material specifications or manufacturing processes are impacted.
- Collaborate with design, quality, production, and supply chain teams to ensure materials meet performance, compliance, and manufacturing requirements.
- Conduct technical evaluations and root cause investigations related to material performance and manufacturing challenges.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
- Provide technical guidance on metallic materials, metallurgy, and manufacturing processes.
Experience
- Degree qualified in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or production support environment.
- Demonstrable knowledge of material qualification, material selection, and materials approval processes.
- Experience investigating and resolving material-related manufacturing issues and non-conformances.
- Understanding of manufacturing methods, production processes, and continuous improvement activities.
- Ability to apply materials engineering knowledge within a practical engineering and manufacturing setting.
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams.
